My Experience

MPhys Physics With Astrophysics, University of York

September 2021 – June 2025
First-class honours awarded overall. Undertook a variety of computational and practical projects in areas such as radio astrophysics, optics and molecular dynamics. Received University of York Academic Excellence Award every year of tenure.  Alongside studies worked as a Team Leader for Physics Outreach and Senior Ambassador on Access and Outreach residentials.

British Antarctic Survey Placement

July – August 2024
Eight week placement investigating mooring data from the Orkney Passage. Identified anomalous bottom water freshening event and proved statistical correlation with zonal wind stress through analysis with MATLAB. Results presented in a poster at the UK Antarctic Science Conference 2024

COSSMoSS Fieldwork Experience

January 2025
Member of the science team during COSSMoSS fieldwork campaign aboard the RRS James Cook off the coast of Uruguay for four weeks studying submesoscale flows. Variety of roles including marine mammal observation and passive acoustic monitoring, as well as processing Autosub Long Range and CTD data. Gained relevant qualifications for operating offshore. Read more about the experience here.

MPhys Final Year Project

September 2024 – June 2025
Year-long project investigating gas heating properties in the electrothermal plasma thruster Pocket Rocket, for use in nanosatellites. Using advanced fluid-kinetic simulations to investigate the effect of tailored waveforms on gas heating efficiency. Awarded a first-class for dissertation and project overall, which you can read here.

Physical Oceanography PhD, University of Exeter

Starting March 2026
In the new year I’m excited to start my next challenge joining the COSSMoSS team as a PhD student. Watch this space!
